The police station and barracks was flooded

Police officers and their families at Akyem Aperede in the Birim South District of the Eastern Region have been displaced by a deluge of flood that has hit the community .

The rented Police Station and the Barracks which houses eight Police officers and their families was flooded Thursday evening destroying their household properties and some documents.

The displaced Police officers and their families were sheltered in a temporal accommodation provided by Chiefs in the community.

This is the fourth time the Police station and barracks located in a flood prone area have been wrecked by severe floods.


The floods also affected many homes around the Police station.

The Birim South Acting Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO), Kofi Boamah -Darko who visited the community for assessment described the situation as very bad.

“The situation is very bad especially at the Police station. There was a heavy downpour and the whole station housing eight policemen, their wives and children had their houses submerged. All their rooms were covered by water. Their belongings were soaked.

“There is a very big gutter I am told is a river and is called river Afram which overflown it bank”.

He said in the long term solution is dredging of the river however the organization has recommended to Chiefs in the community to relocate the Police Station and Barracks.

He said the District office has no relief items hence a report has been sent to the Regional Office of NADMO for assistant.
