The just ended inter-schools competition in Koforidua was characterised by chaos, leading to the temporal arrest of eight students of Koforidua Senior High Technical School and Oyoko Methodist Senior High School.

The competition hosted by Ghana Senior High School was rocked with skirmishes between students of the two schools over mobile phone theft.

The swift intervention by the Police personnel dispatched by the Effiduase District Police Commander, DSP Daniel Yaro averted what could have been bloody clashes though some students reportedly sustained some minor injuries in the melee.

The incident occurred Friday, March 22 around 4:00 pm.

Information gathered by Starr News indicates that a 17-year-old student of Koforidua Senior High Technical School, otherwise known as SECTECH, (name withheld) allegedly stole a mobile phone belonging to a student of Oyoko Methodist Senior High School (OMESS) identified as Solomon Narh.

Narh quickly informed his mates about the theft and subsequently organized about 10 old students to attack the suspect and ostensibly retrieve the stolen mobile phone.

The attack on the suspect attracted his mates who were spectating, to the scene to rescue him resulting in a free for all fight.

A teacher who spoke to Starr News on anonymity said the swift intervention of the police prevented what could blood clashes as some of the students were throwing stones whilst others were in search of sticks and clubs to fight.

“It was becoming nasty as some of the students were pelting stones, others searching for sticks and other implements to fight but the police responded quickly to restore calm. We later got information that some of the students were injured,” the teacher said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the incident to Starr News, adding seven of the students, as well as the suspect, were arrested to assist in the investigation but have since been granted bail.
