Hundreds of students from the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Safety Wednesday morning swamped the streets of the University of Education, Winneba to demand the reinstatement of the head of department Dr. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong.

The students are also demanding the removal of the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Father Afful Broni.

About 30 lecturers who have been dismissed by the Vice Chancellor since he assumed office in September last year.

Already the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has served notice they will take action against the actions of the Vice chancellor should he not reverse the dismissals or resign.

Some of the students told Starr News that Dr. Osei Sarpong is one of the best lecturers in the school and personally cares about the wellbeing of the students.

They described the decision to sack him and other lecturers as unfortunate and political victimisation by the Vice Chancellor.

Meanwhile, some lecturers of the University are calling on President Nana Akufo-Addo to mount independent investigations on activities happening at the University.

Addressing the media Tuesday, National UTAG president, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah said the lecturers association expects an immediate resignation of the Vice Chancellor and the reinstatement of the dismissed staff of the school.

“That the victimization and polarization on UEW campus is at variance with the President that the VC should reconcile  all  factions regarding the impasse which existed before his investiture, as at now over 30 people have been  sacked, suspended or demoted arbitrarily.

“Having failed his assigned task, It is the considered position that Prof Afful-Broni should resign honourably to save UEW from further chaos. UTAG is demanding an unconditional reinstatement of all staff who have been dismissed, demoed or suspended”.

UTAG also declared support for the demonstration of the students over the development but urged them to be cautious as they push home their position.
