Awo Aidam Amenya is the Ghanaian woman whose name we won’t be forgetting anytime soon and here’s why;
A child online activist and the Executive Director of the Child Online Africa, Mrs Amenya has entered the history books as the first Ghanaian woman to summit Africa’s highest mountain, Mt. Kilimajaro in efforts to raise awareness for online safety issues for African children.
Standing at 19,341 feet and 5,895 meters above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa.
In a statement before embarking on the 5-day journey to the top, the mother of two said the rationale behind the project, “Kili4theAfricanChild” was a mission to “make a case for online safety for the African child”.
It also hopes to raise “awareness on the need to protect the vulnerable and give people especially children the confidence to use the internet without fear.” she added.
On Sunday, the activist made her final touch on the Mountain’s top which is located in Tanzania. The Kilimanjaro range is also a Volcanic mountain namely;“Kibo”, “Mawenzi”, and “Shira” which makes it one of the Volcanic Seven Summits.
My current location, details on the board. In a handshake with the Chief Guide from #ZaraTours Chombo. If we we do not demand the right systems for the #AfricanChild on the Internet. Nobody will do it for us. Spread the news of #Onlinesafety #Hike4TheChildOnline pic.twitter.com/hnBmsw28zK
