Five Ghanaian Paralympic athletes have qualified for the Paralympic games after making the qualifying mark in the recent international outing in Manchester.

Peter Adjei, Secretary-General of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) disclosed this in an interview with the media and expressed how impressed they were with the performances recorded by the para-athletes from Ghana in the international outing in Manchester, UK.

He said however there are other qualifiers in Georgia, Thailand and Dubai where they can take advantage to better their points.

Athletes from Ghana who have made the Qualifying Mark are:

  • Emmanuel Nii Tettey Oku – Para Powerlifting
  • Vida Antwi – Para Powerlifting
  • Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe – Athletics
  • Yussif Amadu – Athletics
  • Frederick Assor – Cycling

All the above will be confirmed through the IPC Games Commission after final competitions across all sports between March and June 2021.

Meanwhile, President of the committee, Samson Deen is hopeful of getting more slots at the Para games as more para athletes including the Wheelchair Tennis and Judo teams will try to secure more qualifying slots for Ghana.

“We hope Wheelchair Tennis and Judo will get us qualifications as well,” he said.
