Forty-five-year-old Patricia Oduro a native of Wasa Japa in the Wasa Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region escaped death under surreal circumstances after she was clubbed and butchered in the bushes of galamsey ridden bushes.

Patricia who used to sell toffees, water, second-hand clothing and slippers in Kumasi was offered a place by her suspected assailant 46-year-old Comfort Ama Bono, to stay temporarily when she moved to her hometown of Wasa Japa for greener pastures.

Things went sour between herself and her benefactor after she demanded a three thousand cedis saving she had lodged with Comfort, to help her rent a place of her own.

The suspect, 46-year-old Comfort Ama Bono, asked the victim to escort her to visit some farms and galamsey sites on the afternoon of 17th March 2021 after she had gone insisting on retrieving her money.

Narrating her ordeal on Abusua FM’s Kyenkyenbi Adi Mawu she recounted that after visiting two farms, Comfort picked up a club and asked her to lead the trail.

“I resisted and asked her why I had to lead the trail when she was the one who knew the route. When I turned to ask her why she was holding the club, she struck me on the forehead and told me she will kill me. I pleaded with her several times and even begged her to take the money to spare my life. She drew out a machete and continued her assault on me.”

“Realizing I couldn’t overpower her, I seized my breath and feigned death. She gave me the last slash at my back to check whether I was dead before she left thinking I was dead.”

Patricia narrated that she gathered strength to crawl herself into some shrubs to hide.

“When I was in there, she came back in the night with a black polythene bag. She kept searching with her torchlight but could not find me. She returned that dawn to continue her search. I was still there watching her.”

“When she left, I heard a hunter’s gunshot close to me but I didn’t cry for help fearing he could be working with the woman.”

Patricia finally crawled out of her hideout when she heard footsteps of some local farmers, and cried for help.

“At first they thought I was a mentally deranged woman so they called other farmers to hear my story. They went to bring my assailant to the scene and matched her to the Wasa Amenfi Police station which later transferred the case to the Takwa police station,” she continued.

After confessing to the crime and the mysterious deaths of her husband and mother in law, Comfort Ama Bono has been remanded into prison custody by the Takwa Circuit Court pending hearing on the 1st of April.

Meanwhile, the victim Patricia Oduro was treated at the Wasa Akropong government hospital and is responding to treatment.

The single mother told host Rev. Kwadwo Bewuah Adu Gyamfi popularly called Abesiriwa she was worried for her two daughters in a Nursing Training College and a Junior High School in Kumasi for whose reason she travelled to get money to pay their school fees.

She also begged to be taken to a safer place as some persons who had visited her have informed her of the threats from her assailant to take her life immediately she is granted bail.
