Ghanaian FIFA referee, Charles Bulu is recuperating after he collapsed on the field during an AFCON qualifier between Ivory Coast and Ethiopia in Abidjan.

The center referee struggled to stand and was stretched off by the medical team. He was later sent to the hospital after the 80th minute.

The home team, Ivory Coast were leading by 3-1 at the time the referee collapsed at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny after the players had noticed the referee’s inability to stand.

The fourth referee who was an Ivorian was asked to handle the remaining minutes of the match but was not allowed per the CAF regulations as he was an Ivorian so the game ended abruptly.

Both teams booked their place in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations tournament which will be held in Cameroon despite Ethiopia suffering defeat after Madagascar failed to beat Niger at home.

Reports reaching Starr FM Sports Desk from Abidjan indicates the Ghanaian referee is responding very well to treatment from doctors in Abidjan.
