The police service has planned to conduct more swoops in selective parts of the country to curb criminal activities during the Easter festivities.

Over fifty suspects have been arrested by the police in Accra with more than forty motorbikes impounded.

A similar exercise conducted in the Ashanti region has led to the arrest of some suspects and seizures of motorbikes.

Greater Accra regional police PRO DSP Afia Tenge told Starr News ” … the likelihood that criminals will want to take advantage of the jubilations to perpetrate various crimes. So, for the regional command, we are looking at criminals who usually attack people on the streets. And so, first of all, we are targeting areas like Kotobabi, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Kaneshie, Adabraka and even before then we also had a similar exercise at  East Legon.”

“These are part of efforts that we have devised purposely for the Easter.”

As to whether other regions are embarking on the same exercise, she indicated “every command has its own approach, they have their own strategies they are devising for the season.”

“For the regional command in Accra, that is our general operation that we are embarking on,” she stressed.
