Ghana’s 100m record holder Benjamin Azamati, with a time of 10.19s finished first in heat 7 of the men’s 100m preliminary round at the ongoing Commonwealth games in Birmingham.
Having missed out after finishing fourth in the heats of the just ended World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA, the 24 year old sprinter shove off Jeremiah Azu(10.35) with a power driven sprint to end the race despite starting with a lighter energy.
Azamati who gained automatic qualification to the semis was joined by compatriot Sean Sarfo Antwi who proved why, he’s been the go to man to run the 1st legs of Ghana’s 4×100m relay.
The 31 year old also managed a fourth place finish in heat 10 after launching a blistering start in the race.
Both sprinters will continue to prepare and work on dropping their respective times as they get ready to stand in the tracks again on Wednesday for the semi finals.
