A leading and a founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has accused President Akufo-Addo’s government of using the Ghana Police Service to stifle public sentiments.

According to him, the government in an attempt to gag citizens from expressing their displeasure on the current status of the economy, peaceful demonstrators have been arrested and manhandled by the Police Service.

Addressing the media as a member of the Ghana Today Coalition of Statesmen, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe stated that demonstration is right under the 1992 constitution and must be allowed by the Ghana Police Service.

“Recent abuse and arrest of demonstrators by the police only goes to attest to the fact that, this government is doing all it can clampdown on public sentiments. Because of their bad management of the economy by its appointees.

“We have noticed with grave concern the clear disrespect by the governor of Bank of Ghana to protestors led by the Minority in Parliament and many aggrieved Ghanaians. It cannot be true that the Occupy BoG were solely on any political agenda when they were joined in the match by other well-meaning Ghanaians. To show their indignation against actions taken that have led to losses to the taxpayer,” Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe stated.

He continued: “We should bear in our mind that these are Members of Parliament representing Ghanaians. Demonstration so far peaceful should be allowed by the Ghana Police Service because it is a democratic right enshrined under the constitution that is the 1992 Constitution.”
