Immediate past Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu is demanding answers from Minister for Communications and Digitalization Ursula Owusu-Ekuful in the sale of Ghana’s shares in Vodafone.

Vodafone Group Plc has sold its 70% stake in Vodafone Ghana to Telecel.

According to the MP for Tamale South, the sector minister should appear in parliament to tell the house if reports that Ghana’s shares worth over $1 billion have now been sold for less than $100,000 on credit to Telecel.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu decried the dwindling fortunes of the country’s Telecom sector.

“I want the leader of the government and the business committee to program the Honorable Minister for Communication to come and respond to this house. Whether it is true that Vodafone one billion assets of the Republic of Ghana have been sold on credit for less than a hundred million US dollars.

“And what the state of that transaction is as an economic transaction within the meaning of Article 1, 8, 5 of the 1992 Constitution. Also to probably update this on the whipping of Ghana’s telecom landscape and its strength. The telecom sector used to be a major revenue source for the government,” he added.
