As doubts over the credibility of the 2024 voters register for the December elections grow, the Electoral Commission (EC) has responded by reiterating its integrity and characterizing the voters register as “robust and credible”.
This comes on the back of allegations made by the Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah in a Facebook post made on August 28, 2024, that the voter’s register which was released, had been tampered with.
“Forget about adjudication!!! It’s obvious the register has deliberately been tampered with! They did not expect such thorough scrutiny that has unveiled the mountains of anomalies”, he stated.
However, in a post on X (previously Twitter), on August 28, 2024, the EC asked Ghanaians to ignore any claims that raised doubt about the register’s credibility for the election.
“The rationale for exhibiting the provisional voters register is to correct errors and omissions. It’s only after all identified issues are corrected that the final register is printed for the elections. This has been the practice since 1992,” the EC stated.
With more than 17,000 views and a wide range of responses, the EC’s statement has already attracted a lot of attention online and reflects the increased tension as the nation gets ready for the crucial December elections. The EC is attempting to preserve public confidence in the midst of allegations, with its hashtag #LetTheCitizenKnow.
