Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu believes modern football has changed and was not surprised by the surprising scoreline against Cape Verde.

Ghana’s Black Stars began their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a defeat to Cape Verde in their Group B match in Abidjan.

Speaking on GHOne TV Sports Show dubbed ‘The GAME’ with Benjamin Yamoah, the former Under-20 World Cup winner Agyemang Badu says, the Black Stars have been struggling to win games recently despite knowing that the football has changed.

“I think normally when it comes to tournaments like this the first games are difficult for those who are favorites and we know football has really changed in this modern era, so I wasn’t too surprised when I saw some surprising score lines”.

“Normally when we’re moving forward you see the big guys will start regrouping themselves and some have started very well especially like Senegal, I’m not surprised at all and it has been fantastic so far,”He said.

“Well, we all know we’ve been struggling for some time now, our game is not that good, we’re not creating chances, we’re not scoring, and we’re conceding,” Agyemang Badu stated.

“I thought it was a tournament and we knew things would change, looking at our first game nothing has changed. The only thing I was surprised about was when I saw the first 11 minutes I panicked, the coach is in camp and knows most of the players and what he thinks they can do,” he added.

The former Verona midfielder indicated that Cape Verde outperformed Ghana and believes the Black Stars had a poor day based on the game’s statistics.

Ghana faces Egypt in Group B match on Thursday, in the other Group B match, Mozambique faces Cape Verde, and is determined to secure a crucial victory against Egypt on Thursday.
