The Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, is set to contest unopposed following the disqualification of his sole contender, Yaa Ansa Safori.
The former constituency women’s organizer may faced disqualification on Thursday, as she is accused of allegedly falsifying a polling station executive’s signature for endorsement—a charge she vehemently denies.
Meanwhile, in the Akuapem South constituency, Member of Parliament Osei Bonsu Amoah is allegedly pushing for the disqualification of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), citing party regulations requiring MMDCEs interested in parliamentary contests to resign from their positions two years before the nomination period.
The Akuapem South parliamentary primaries witness a competitive field, with contenders including Kwame Ofori-Gyau, Eric Samuel Annor-Mensah, Frank Aidoo (the MCE), and Eric Yeboah Apeadu, a former aide and research assistant to OB Amoah.
Addressing journalists after vetting, OB Amoah, seeking a fourth term, refuted claims he may withdraw from the race if the MCE is disqualified, to support his former aide, Eric Yeboah Apeadu.
He asserted that such allegations were mere propaganda, denying any intention of not seeking reelection.
The vetting process, ongoing at the Residency of the Eastern Regional Minister since January 3, is set to conclude on January 5, 2024.
Notable figures including Laud Commey, Dr. Charles Dwamena, and Haruna Mohammed lead three teams as national representatives for the vetting in the Eastern Region.
