Former Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars coach, Michael Osei, has expressed gratitude to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for shortlisting him for Black Stars coaching job.

Chris Hughton’s contract was terminated due to dissatisfaction with his performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Stars faced an early AFCON setback after failing to win any group games, while Ghana finished third in Group B after drawing two and losing one.

Ghanaian gaffer Michael Osei, a former player with experience in both local and international settings, conveyed his belief that his extensive background as a professional coach in Europe and Ghana makes him well suited to lead the Ghanaian team to success.

Drawing upon his experiences as a player and coach, he emphasized his conviction in his ability to unite a team of young, committed individuals who are eager to raise Ghana’s flag high. With the support of his team, Coach Osei has already devised various strategies aimed at rejuvenating the sport, reigniting public interest, and achieving positive outcomes if given the chance.

He viewed it as a privilege to have the opportunity to contribute to the team’s efforts and help Ghana regain a position within the top 10 of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) national team rankings. He stated:

“I’m determined to restore Ghana’s national team to its former glory in African football. With my experience and a committed team, I believe we can make a significant impact, by implementing effective strategies, nurturing local talent, and fostering teamwork”.

Coach Osei aims to reignite the passion for football, attract enthusiastic fans to stadiums, and achieve positive results for the nation.

Central to Coach Osei’s plans is fostering harmony within the dressing room, recognizing its crucial role in achieving unity on the field of play. By creating an environment that promotes camaraderie and mutual support, Coach Osei aims to establish a solid foundation upon which the players can perform at their peak and work collectively towards shared objectives.

Coach Michael Osei is CAF licence A and UEFA B licence holder. He has vast experience coaching as Black Meteors assistant manager, Head coach of New Edubiase United FC, Star Madrid FC, Liberty Professionals FC and Asante Kotoko SC.
