Board Chair of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Freddy Blay has dismissed claims made by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on alleged hotel allowances increased from 400 to a thousand dollars.
Earlier this week, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa took a swipe at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Board for approving allowances in what he terms contrary to the government’s assurances of a general pay cut.
In a post on his X handle, Ablakwa alleged a day’s hotel allowance per board members has been increased from 400 to a thousand dollars, euros or pounds depending on where they travel to.
While the chairman of the board is entitled to 850 dollars, euros, or pounds per diem from 500 of the same currencies, with the CEO, board members, and external board committee members moving from 500 to 700.
“It is even more depressing to read other memos requesting that the salary of the CEO be doubled. Angry insiders say the CEO, Mr. Opoku Ahweneeh Danquah who is President Akufo-Addo’s nephew, always gets what he wants. This betrayal of the Ghanaian people” Okudzeto Ablakwa asserted.
But reacting to the claims made by the MP in an exclusive interview with GHONE news’ Obed King Gaglo, the board chairman of GNPC Freddy Blay said the claims are belated and baseless.
In a related development, The Executive Board of the Senior Staff Association (SSA) issued a formal disclaimer regarding the recent publications on some media outlets. The Senior Staff Association categorically stated that the leadership is not aware of any issues or grievances that would necessitate such potential demonstrations as mentioned in the said publications and it should be dismissed in no uncertain terms.
Furthermore, the SSA leadership would like to clarify that the individual referred to by the name “Norbert Gbogbotsi” in the publication is not a staff of the Corporation and not recognized by our association, nor does his assertions represent the views or positions of the SSA in any capacity.
The mention of this individual’s name and the association of such a person with the SSA is completely erroneous and misleading, the statement said.
