A seven-member jury panel has been told that a 23-year-old Level 100 Biological student who has been charged for allegedly killing her boyfriend chained him during a “kinky sex” and took advantage of his “weaknesses” to execute her plans.

Safina Mohammed alias Safina Diamond has pleaded not guilty to murder of one Frank Osei, her Ghanaian boyfriend resident in Canada.

Nana Ama Adinkra, a Senior State Attorney while giving her opening address to the jury on Thursday March 7 said, the prosecution will lead evidence to show that, the deceased was chained with dog chains.

The Senior State Attorney also told the jury that in doing so, they would be calling 9 witnesses including another boyfriend of the accused and five police officers to prove their case.

She submitted that through their witness, they will demonstrate that Frank Kofi Osei is dead, his death was caused by unlawful harm and the unlawful harm which led to his death was by the accused and the harm was done so intentionally.

She also told the jury that the knife, which is the murder weapon with blood stains, was confirmed as the DNA of the deceased.

The Senior State Attorney also told the Jury that, on July 29, 2022 a DNA test was performed on the body and the results indicate that the cause of death was unnatural.

According to her, the body of the deceased was in the early stages of decomposition and the doctors confirmed that he might have died at least 72hrs.

Be fair, objective

Defence lawyer Samuel Alesu-Dordzi employed the Jury to uphold the principle of fairness, objectivity and justice.

While expressing surprise at Prosecution’s submission that his client and deceased were involved in “Kinky sex” he said the jury should hear both sides of the story before deciding the outcome.

He also urged them to shy away from social media commentaries that have characterized the case.

By Court

Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, the presiding Judge, also reminded the jury of their constitutional duty as jurors.

The Court urged them to “show no bias” to either side while they discharge their duties devoid of any emotions.

Justice Marfo also said stories heard outside the court particularly on radio, social media platforms are not to be evaluated when assessing the case.

“Nothing more than the evidence adduced before this court should be assessed,” the Court said, “Remember your verdict is binding on the court and the society you represent should not be ridiculed.”

Background

It was the case of the prosecution that, on Sunday July 24, 2022, Osei, who was on vacation in Ghana, visited Safina, his fiance, who lived at Ashaley Botwe School Junction and decided to spend the night with her.

The prosecution indicated that in the night, Safina, Arku and other accomplices yet to be arrested, allegedly stabbed Osei with a knife and strangled him.

It said Osei’s blood was allegedly cleaned from the floor by Safina and her accomplices while the body was in the room for 24 hours.

The body of Osei, according to the Prosecution, was dragged from the first floor of the storey building through the staircase.

It said the body was dumped at the gate of the house, where the deceased had parked his Toyota Tundra.

Safina Diamond allegedly called the Police, claiming that her boyfriend, who visited her, had died in her room.

When the Police proceeded to the scene, they found the body of Osei lying at the gate of Safina’s house. Safina was consequently arrested for investigations.
