The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) says the request by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for serial numbers of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits in use for the ongoing voter registration cannot be granted.
This comes on the back of the NDC’s request for serial numbers of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) Kits currently deployed in the field for the Limited Voters Registration Exercise.
In responding to the request in a statement signed by the Ag. Director of Public Affairs of EC, Mr. Michael Boadu explained that the move granting the NDC’s request is risky.
“The Electoral Commission has nothing to hide. It is important to note that the demand for serial numbers of BVRs if granted, could pose major risks to the security and integrity of our electoral system and operations.
“Prevention of such risks by declining this request far outweighs any concerns and interests of individual stakeholders.
“The Commission has the mandate to conduct elections independently, and we have demonstrated our capacity to do so effectively and impartially. We urge all political parties to cooperate with the Commission to administer the electoral processes without undue interference.”
