Veteran Ghanaian actress and TV personality Nana Ama McBrown has opened up about her experiences with social media and how she handles negative comments about her age and career.
Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, McBrown stated “I go through social media sometimes, I see some things on TikTok, Instagram, and more. I’ve seen a lot, but it doesn’t get to me. I’ve been in this job for 24 good years, and I’ve learned to ignore criticisms.
“Sometimes people say, Nana is old, she’s about 47, she’s lying. But I know they’ve missed their own calculation, not mine. I don’t care. I’ve stayed relevant, and that’s why they feel I’ve been around for long.”
Nana Ama McBrown shared a personal anecdote, “I remember when I was watching a mother bathe her child in a basin, and the child was attentive. Now, that child can afford a mobile phone and still sees me on TV. They feel like, Ah, life didn’t treat me well, but this woman is still my size. They don’t know I’m also taking care of myself.”
She emphasized, “If somebody was eight years old and watched me for 24 years, they’re now 32. They’ve grown, probably drinking beer, and still see me. They feel like, this woman is still doing well. But they don’t know the calculation.”
Nana Ama McBrown humbly stated, “I don’t have any qualifications when it comes to acting, hosting, or anything I’m doing on TV. I learn on the job. I had the opportunity to work with a wise man who told me, we are not stars, we’re just ordinary people.”
