New President-elect of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Mrs Efua Ghartey has assured her members that they will not regret entrusting the mantle of leadership into the hands of the “ladies.”
According to her, she will lead an Association that would be geared towards a united and progressive future.
Speaking after her historic election as the first female President of the GBA in Kumasi on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Mrs. Ghartey pledged to end factions within the GBA.
“The Bar has spoken and from this day forward it is a united Bar in service. No divisions, no factions. It is over,” she assured.
“It is time that we put shoulders to the plow and work to deliver what we believe should be the bar in progress. This indeed is something new, something novel that the bar for the first time has entrusted leadership to the ladies and I know that with God’s help, we shall make you proud.
“We shall serve you with all our ability and we shall make sure that you will never regret this choice,” she intimated.
The first female president-elect of the GBA also assured to protect the legal profession while expressing her joy to be elected the first female President of the Association.
“I am humbled and honored to be the first female President of the Ghana Bar Association, this indeed is something new that the bar for the first time has entrusted leadership to the ladies.
“We shall make you proud. We shall make sure that you never regret this choice. What we ask for moving forward is that not only do you pray for us but also hold our hands,” she said.
“I pledge to work tirelessly to promote the interests of lawyers, to protect the rule of law, and to advance the cause of justice in Ghana,” she stated.
Meanwhile, the outgoing GBA President, Yaw Acheampong Boafo said the GBA feels “proud to have Efua Ghartey as its first female President.”
The newly elected executives which also comprises of – Mrs Victoria Barth – Vice President, Baffour Gyau – Secretary, Aurelius Awuku – Assistant Secretary, Saviour Kudze, – Public Relations Officer, Lawrencia Adika, – Assistant Public Relations Officer are expected to be inaugurated into office on November 4, 2024.
