Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that President John Dramani Mahama will establish a dedicated fund for the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy to phase out the double-track system, enhance the quality of teaching and learning, and improve quality of food served to students.
Speaking to NDC supporters in the Achiase constituency in Eastern Region Monday night, as part of his five-day campaign tour, Dr. Omane Boamah reaffirmed Mahama’s commitment to improving the Free SHS policy, which he described as a constitutional provision, saying, “Mahama started the implementation of Free SHS with the Progressive Free SHS for day students. He is determined to make it more efficient. When you look at the poor quality of food being served to our children in school it is disheartening”.
Dr. Omane Boamah said the dedicated source of funding that will be established by John Mahama for the Free SHS policy will be used to among other things decentralize procurement of food items to enable headmasters buy food from local farmers.
“So for instance, Achiase here is a farming community. So the schools around will buy from the farmers to feed the students. Won’t this help farmers get money into their pockets? This is what President Mahama says he will do to stop the procurement of food from Accra as introduced by the Running mate of Dr Bawumia [Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh] when he was Minister of Education breeding corruption. The procurement of food will be given back to the schools” said Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
He added that “again, the double track system will be canceled. The double track system is not only detrimental to students but also teachers because it makes teachers overwork however government has not appreciated their hard work to even add some allowances to their salaries”.
Dr.Omane Boamah who described President Mahama as ” King of Infrastructure stated that he ” would prioritize building the necessary infrastructure to end the double-track system.
“President Mahama says he is going to expand infrastructure in the schools -classrooms, dormitories among others to accommodate more students at a time to end double track”.
Omane Boamah therefore called on the public to disregard disinformation by the NPP that Mahama will cancel Free SHS policies.
Speaking on the Economy, Dr. Omane Boamah criticized the NPP government for the poor management of the economy leading to unbearable hardship.
He said the proposed 24-hour economy policy by John Dramani will help create job opportunities for the youth with the security services alone expected to recruit about 20,000 youth under the policy.
He urged voters to be vigilant during the special voting on December 2 and the main election on December 7 to avoid rigging.
Dr. Omane Boamah said supporters of the party should police every process of the election, and video record every process with their mobile phones.
