Former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansah-Asare, has urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize the voices and concerns of Ghanaians following the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) landslide victory in the 2024 elections.
The NDC secured a decisive win in both the parliamentary and presidential races, with many attributing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat to their perceived disregard for the needs and sentiments of the Ghanaian people.
speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Ansah-Asare cautioned Mahama against taking Ghanaians for granted, emphasising the importance of finding a balance between appeasing the people and catering to select groups.
He endorsed the “didina mindidi” (we all must chop) principle, which promotes inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.
While welcoming Mahama’s presidency, Ansah-Asare warned the NDC against becoming complacent due to their significant majority.
He advised the party to remain mindful of the needs and concerns of all Ghanaians, lest they face a similar fate as the NPP in four years.
“To the incoming president, please listen to the voice of the people and where you see that all is not well, don’t take Ghanaians for granted. Always, try to find a middle to appeasing the people rather than appeasing a selected group. This ‘didina mindidi [we all must chop] principle is very good. I welcome JM but caution the NDc not to over indulge their numbers else they will not even have eight years, four years the tsunami will grapple with them and they will lose. Let’s all help in building the nation to where JM has in mind, resetting Ghana.”
