A total of 397 Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and health centres have been completed across the country under projects being implemented by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), Local Government Minister Mahama Ayariga has disclosed.
According to Mr Ayariga, the projects form part of government’s efforts to translate increased District Assemblies Common Fund allocations into tangible development at the local level.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House on Monday, October 5, 2026, the Minister said significant progress had also been made in the education and water sectors.
He disclosed that 502 out of 761 classroom blocks targeted under the projects had been completed.
In the water sector, 3,081 mechanised and hand-pump boreholes had been completed out of a target of 4,029, while 97 of 134 Small Town Water Projects had also been completed.
“These are tangible capital that empowers the Assemblies to establish educational institutions, develop healthcare facilities, implement water supply systems, establish sanitation infrastructure, and finalise incomplete development projects,” Mr Ayariga said.
The Minister further said several sanitation-related facilities had either been completed or were at various stages of implementation.
He said the scale of projects undertaken by the MMDAs demonstrated government’s commitment to ensuring that decentralisation translates into visible improvements in communities across the country.
