A 40-year-old disabled man has been lynched at Edumadze, a community within Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region, after being accused of stealing an amplifier.
According to reports gathered by GHOne News’ Yaw Boagyan, the deceased, Joseph Acquah, popularly known as Akwesi, was suspected of stealing an amplifier used for a spinning machine at a funeral on Saturday, February 9, 2024.
Family members say Akwesi left home around 7:00 AM on Saturday and never returned. Later, they received the shocking news of his death.
His mother, Ama Bentsiwa, refuted the theft allegations in an interview with GHOne News, insisting that her son was not a thief. She argued that his disability made it unlikely for him to steal an amplifier and believes he may have been deliberately killed, with the amplifier placed beside him to frame him.
Eyewitnesses report that Akwesi’s lifeless body was found on a school field on the morning of Sunday, February 9, 2025. His hands and legs were tied with a rope, and there were visible signs of assault, with blood stains on his body. The amplifier, which he was accused of stealing, was found beside him.
Police were called to the scene and later transported the body to the Saltpond Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation. As of the time of filing this report, the owner of the amplifier has not been identified, and no arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s mother is calling for justice, urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to book.
The case has been reported to the Mankessim Police, who have assured the public of an investigation into the matter.
