Resurrection Power Voices becomes first praise team to gain full recognition as organization in Methodist Church

The Resurrection Power Voices (RPV), the resident praise team of the Resurrection Methodist Church in the Adenta Circuit of the Northern Accra Diocese (NAD), has made history by becoming the first praise team in the Methodist Church Ghana to be officially inaugurated as a full-fledged organization within the church structure, under Standing Order, SO 735 (1).

During a special inaugural ceremony held at the Resurrection Methodist Church, the Superintendent Minister of the Adenta Circuit, Very Rev. Isaac Kwesi Acquah, formally announced this milestone, stating,

“On behalf of the Leaders Meeting and in the stead of the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev. Prof. J. Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, and the Bishop of the Northern Accra Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Andrew Mbeah-Baiden, I officially welcome and establish the Resurrection Power Voices (RPV) as an Organization of the Methodist Church Ghana at the Resurrection Society in the Adenta Circuit of the Northern Accra Diocese.”

This recognition follows an official approval by the Methodist Church Ghana at its 50th Annual and 12th Biennial Conference held in Winneba in 2022. The conference resolved that Praise Teams at the society level could be recognized as official organizations of the church. The approval aims to build a vibrant, spirit-filled church where music plays a critical role in transformation. Music has long been an integral part of the Methodist Church, from its early days under the Rev. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, to the present. Well-crafted liturgy and shared musical traditions unite congregations, celebrate a common heritage, and reinforce Wesleyan practices.

According to Very Rev. Acquah, Methodism was born in songs and the Praise Teams complement traditional hymns in contemporary worship in Methodism by leading the congregations into deep moments of praise and adoration, setting a spirit-filled atmosphere. They also serve as a platform for young musicians—both singers and instrumentalists—to develop their God-given talents and solidify their roots in ministry.

Resurrection Power Voices (RPV) traces its roots to the church’s early music ministry in 1997. During the formative years of the Resurrection Methodist Church at the Roman Catholic School, a group called Peniel Singers was formed to lead praise and adoration. However, due to theological concerns about the name, church leaders proposed a change, and the group became known as the Resurrection Singers. In 2008, the group experienced a decline in membership due to various reasons. To revitalize its presence, it merged with the music wing of the Resurrection Methodist Youth Fellowship, leading to the formation of Resurrection Power Voices (RPV). Over the years, RPV has grown under impactful leaderships, training over a hundred singers and instrumentalists. Some of its alumni have gone on to establish music ministries, notably Mimi Dansoaa Ministries and Adomako Music. The group also has two singles (songs) to its credit; “Yɛ pegya Wo” (We lift You high, Lord) and “Yebeyi W’ayɛ” (We will praise You, Lord).

The first Chairman of the group, Bro. Kwadwo Osei-Boampong, during his speech said that the Resurrection Power Voices is committed to its mission of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through song ministration and evangelism. He called for a stronger and a dedicated membership for the group to continue to play its vital role in the church’s music ministry.
