An economics and finance lecturer at the Catholic University College of Ghana in the Brong Ahafo region and a financier of the ruling NPP, Dr. Charles Kwame Addo, is reported to be lacing his boot to contest for the regional chairmanship position of the party, when nominations are opened.
According to sources “some key members of the party have been intensifying their efforts at getting Dr. Addo to contest the race because they see his genuine commitment to the NPP, and some traits they perceive could be brought to bear positively on the fortunes of the party.”
Dr. Addo, who authored the book, “Returning the elephant into the city: the unfinished contract with Ghana,” a book that raised funds for the party and was launched at Sunyani by President Nana Akufo-Addo, arguably contributed to the building up of confidence and morale of party members across the country during the run up to the 2016 elections, and may have played a significant role in the NPP’s victory.
Should Dr. Addo receive a nod by delegates as chairman of the party in the Brong-Ahafo region, sources close to him say he would likely advance a policy, among others, that would “consolidate Brong-Ahafo region as an NPP stronghold, get party members to believe that their contribution to the party is valuable, and deepen party members involvement in decision making aimed at preparing the grounds for the 2020 elections.”
Persons close to the economics lecturer say he “believes that as citizen and not spectator, he may be in a better position to encourage constituencies within the Brong-Ahafo region to identify their problems and help find solutions through his commitment to open door policy, as well as advance the NPP’s aims and objectives in accordance with article 2 of the party’s constitution.”
