The overlord of Dagbon Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama will on Friday, June 28, appoint a new chief for Gushegu, Starrfm.com.gh can confirm.

This follows a successful performance of the funerals of both the late Gushegu chief and the late Regent of Gushegu.

Sources at the palace have told Starrfm.com.gh five people have shown interest and are in the race to occupy the vacant skin.

The five people include; Naa Bakpem Gbambu Naa Abdulai, grandson of the late Gushe-Naa Mahamudu and son of Gbambu Naa Shitobu, Libonaa Abdula, regent of Gushe-Naa Sugri and grandson of Gushe-Naa Yakubu Kpema and “Tamal Naa Yakubu”, son of Gushe-Naa Zakali and grandson of Nabiyoŋ Shero.

The rest are; Maŋ Naa Ziblim, grandson of Gushe-Naa Ziblim Baakobli and N yeb Ziblim, son of Gushe-Naa Alidu and grandson of Gushe-Naa Ziblim Baakobli.

The Secretary at the Gbewaa Palace, Abdul Rahaman Mohammed, disclosed to Starrfm.com.gh, the Dagbon king and his elders will follow strictly the principle of tradition to settle on a suitable candidate to take over the mantle as chief of Gushegu.

This, Abdul Rahaman added will curb the issue of disagreement by some people that will pose a threat to the security of Dagbon.

When asked about a candidate’s basic qualification to occupy the Gushegu throne, Rahaman said,  the king of Dagbon will ensure that due traditional process is followed to prevent any agitations.

The process will start Thursday, June 27, 2019, where the five contestants will all report to Yendi and wait for the final selection on Friday.
