Indian community, others donate GHc1.6m to COVID-19 Fund

The majority caucus in Parliament has donated One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund as their contribution towards the efforts of government aimed at fighting the spread of the COVID-19 in Ghana and supporting the needy and vulnerable in the country.

Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, and two other colleagues made the donation on behalf of the entire majority caucus, at the secretariat of the trust fund, located at point six (6) in the Jubilee House.

In his brief remarks before presenting the cheque to the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Chief Justice Retired Sophia Akuffo, Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu noted that the majority caucus in Parliament recognizes the importance of government’s efforts to support the needy and vulnerable in society throughout the period of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Several other institutions were also at the secretariat of the COVID-19 National Trust Fund to present their cheques and donations to the fund.

Colonel Dr. Samuel Amponsah, the Territorial Commander of the Salvation Army Church, presented Seventy Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 70,000.00), as the church’s contribution towards the nation’s battle against the spread of COVID-19.

Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankawoso I, President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, came through with their cheque of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc 100,000.00).

Prefos Limited, an electrical engineering company led by their lawyer, Tweneboah Koduah, also donated their contribution of One Hundred and Fifty thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc 150,000.00), to the fund. Additionally, they presented Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) worth one hundred thousand Ghana Cedis 100,000.00 cedis to the fund to assist the state to meet the shortfall in PPEs.

Mrs. Diana Akufo, the Human Resource and Public Relations Manager of Multivet Ghana Limited, a veterinary pharmaceutical company that specializes in pharmaceuticals for livestock, pets amongst others, presented a cheque of twenty-five thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc25,000.00) in support of the agenda of the fund.

INDIAN COMMUNITY / REINSURANCE

Sugandh Rajaram, the India High Commissioner to Ghana, and Rajesh Thakker, President of the India Community in Ghana, on behalf of their association presented a cheque of Three Hundred and Seventy-five Thousand, One Ghana Cedis, (Ghc375,001.00). High Commissioner Rajaram explained that the one Ghana cedi which is part of their donation is in fulfilment of Indian culture and principle of the needy giving one of all they have to another needy person.

The Managing Director of Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited, George Mensah, on behalf of his outfit presented a cheque of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 100,000.00), to the fund.

COMMERCIAL QUARRY OPERATORS / AMPONSAH EFAH PHARMACEUTICALS/ DEEPER LIFE BIBLE CHURCH

The Commercial Quarry Operators Association of Ghana., came through with Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis, (GHc 10,000.00).
Amponsah Efah Pharmaceuticals Limited presented a cheque of fifty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 50,000.00) and Pastor Douglas Ocran, the National Administrator, of the Deeper Life Bible Church also came through with Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc 20,000.00), to support the mandate of the fund.

NIB

Managing Director of the National Investment Bank (NIB), Samuel Sarpong, in the company of the Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo, came around to donate a contribution of One Hundred and Eighty-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis, (Ghc 185,000.00), to the fund.

NLA/ WE 2 SEAFOOD

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) and We 2 Seafood Company were the last two institutions to presented their cheques to the fund. Mr. Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, the Director-General of NLA presented their Two Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc 200,000.00) cheque to the fund and Evans Adubofour, the Deputy Managing Director, together with Leticia Adubofour, the Executive Manager of We 2 Seafood Company, presented a cheque of Three Hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc 300,000.00) to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.
