The Omanhene of Akwamu Traditional Area Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III is front lining an aggressive public education and sensitization on the Coronavirus pandemic in the traditional area.

Two weeks ago, the Paramount Chief established a Akwamuman COVID-19 response team to mobilize resources and carry out activities to help fight the pandemic.

Since April 16, 2020, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III has been leading public education and sensitization in communities under his traditional area on the coronavirus pandemic as the National commission for Civic Education (NCCE) which is mandated to carry out education throughout the country shirks its responsibility due to inadequate funding.

Some communities visited by the Akwamuman Covid-19 Response Team include Apegusu, Mpakadan Aboasa, Nnudu/Kwanyako, Akrade-Senchi-Atimpoku, Adjena-Adumasa-Gyakiti.

The team embarking on the sensitization exercise also include the DCE for the area, district health director and the Divisional Police Command, MP and other sub-chiefs.

Residents of the various communities were sensitized on the need to “observe all safety guidelines especially social distancing, regular hand washing, no shaking of hands, no hugging, coughing and sneezing into tissues, avoid crowding, physical distancing of 1.5 to 2 meters, wearing of face masks at all times, which have been identified as very vital to the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic”

The team also assisted with answers to questions posed by members of the communities on symptoms, what to do and how to handle suspected cases of the coronavirus pandemic.

Additionally, the team distributed nose masks and educational materials in the form of posters/flyers to the communities visited.

Members of the various communities were cautioned strongly to desist from stigmatizing against persons either tested negative or positive for Covid-19.

Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III urged Nananom and opinion leaders to continue with the education exercise, help enforce the social distancing protocol at all times and ensure strict adherence from the residents.

The Eastern Region has recorded 51 confirmed cases of Coronavirus out of national tally of 1042 as of April 19,2020.

TMost of the cases in the Eastern region were recorded among construction workers working on the Tema to Akosombo-Mpakadan Railway Project.

Akwamumanhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III urged residents to cooperate with health and security agencies particularly on contact tracing and sample taking to ensure that these persons are isolated, tested and monitored to prevent the spread of COVID19. He urged all residents to remain calm.
