Former deputy Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has said he has nothing to hide in the controversial Ameri power deal signed in 2015 between the erstwhile Mahama administration and a UAE power company.
His home and that of John Jinapor, a former deputy Minister of Power were raided on Friday July 28, 2017 by officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
The development comes on the back of a similar raid at the residence of former Power Minister Kwabena Donkor earlier.
The CID Monday July 31, 2017 met all the three former appointees of John Mahama to assist with the ongoing probing of alleged financial malfeasance in the Ameri power contract.
Speaking Tuesday August 1, 2017 on the development, Dr. Ayine who is also the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East dissociated himself from the alleged malfeasance.
“I’ll just hope that they would correct the thing and make sure that they don’t damage the reputation of people like me just because they want to score political points,” he stated during an interview on Accra-based Class FM.
“Yesterday they told me that I could cut new SIM for my phone so I did. People are warning me that they might have cloned my SIM card and so on but I have nothing to hide… I will talk on this phone and whatever I am saying if they want to listen in they are free to listen,” he added.
The 300 MW emergency power contract was secured in 2015 by the John Mahama administration to fix severe power challenges at the time.
