The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has filed a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission (EC) after its presidential candidate was disqualified from the upcoming elections.
The party is disputing the EC’s decision and insists that any ballot arrangements made so far should be considered void until a ruling is made by the court.
This comes after the Electoral Commission of Ghana revealed on 20th September 2024, the list of candidates cleared to run in the 2024 elections. Following what the EC described as a comprehensive vetting process, 13 candidates were approved, while 11 out of the 24 who submitted their nomination forms were disqualified.
The PPP is unfortunately one of the parties whose nomination forms were disqualified.
The Executive Director of the PPP, Nii Amarh stressed the party’s position, stating, “We are campaigning. As for the balloting of whatever they have done, we do not recognise it. Because if the court decides that there should be a new balloting, a new balloting will be done.”
Mr. Amarh also reassured that the party’s campaign efforts are ongoing, despite the legal dispute. “In fact, tomorrow we are in Shai Osudoku to campaign for our parliamentary candidate over there,” he noted.
