Eastern, Western regions to hold special voting today following ballot reprint

The Eastern and Western Regions will hold their special voting exercise today, Thursday, December 5, following the Electoral Commission’s recall and reprint of ballot papers.

On Monday, December 2, 14 regions across the country completed their special voting exercise, marking a significant step toward the December 7 general elections.

However, due to a reported breach of security seals in the Eastern and Western Regions, the EC directed a recall and reprint of the ballot papers, rescheduling the special voting for these two regions.

The special voting exercise is designed to enable individuals who will have key roles on election day, such as electoral officials, security personnel, and media representatives, to cast their votes early.

This ensures they are available to perform their duties during the general election.

Ballot papers for the exercise arrived in both regions on Wednesday, December 4, ahead of today’s voting.

NDC, NPP to conclude 2024 election campaigns with major rallies Today

The two dominant political parties in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are set to conclude their 2024 election campaigns today, Thursday, December 5, 2024.

The NDC will hold its grand final rally at Zurak Park in Madina, Accra, with the theme “Resetting Ghana – Let’s Finish Strong!”

The event is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM. Sammy Gyamfi, the party’s National Communications Officer, announced the rally on social media on November 30, urging supporters, media representatives, and the public to join in.

He emphasised that the rally marks the climax of the NDC’s campaign efforts and invited media outlets to contact the party’s Communications Bureau for accreditation.

Simultaneously, the NPP will wrap up its nationwide campaign with its own major rally at the UG Sports Directorate Park, opposite the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.

Dubbed the “Possibilities Victory Rally,” the event will feature high-profile party figures, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, NPP running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Also are the party leaders such as National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.

The National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, announced the rally on November 30, describing it as “a historic event” and inviting party members, supporters, and the public to attend.

Both parties’ final rallies set the stage for an intense political showdown, as they seek to energize their supporters and sway undecided voters in the final days leading up to the December 7 elections.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has announced traffic management and safety measures ahead of two major rallies aimed at ensuring smooth travel for party supporters and the general public.
