The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is inviting local and international news organisations to apply for accreditation for the coverage of President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration on January 7, 2025.
In a press release, the association said it had been charged by the Ministry of Information to issue accreditations to the staff of the news media organizations that wanted to report on the historic occasion.
“The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), with mandate from the Ministry of Information, invites applications from media houses, including foreign media, for accreditation for their staff to cover the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama at the Independence Square in Accra on January 7, 2025.
“Interested media houses are hereby requested to submit personal details of their staff, including name, media house and standard passport picture,” the release read.
The statement indicated that the deadline for such applications is 5pm on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
“Media houses are respectfully requested to strictly use the following template to submit the details of their staff,” the statement added.
January 7 next month will be Mr. Mahama’s second swearing-in ceremony with the first taking place more than a decade ago. It is a far cry from the circumstances in 2013 when then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) boycotted the event, claiming that the 2012 presidential polls were rigged.
When Mahama is sworn into office next month, he will become the 6th President of the 4th Republic and the only democratic president in the nation’s history to serve two non-consecutive terms.
