To foster socio-economic development in the Asante Akim North constituency, the Member of Parliament-elect for the area, Ohene Kwaku Frimpong, has pledged to conduct business with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) supermajority caucus in the 9th Parliament.

Speaking with Serwaa Amihere on Hard Talk, the victorious independent candidate said such a move would inure to the benefit of the constituency during his maiden tenure as a lawmaker.

He said he had promised constituents on the campaign trail that he was going to transact business with whichever party that was successful in the December 7 polls.

“During my campaign, I said to my constituents that I will do business with any government that comes to power. So based on that, I’ll stick to everything I said to my constituents. I’m not going to be a trickster. Whatever I said to them, I’ll make sure I follow it,” he said on GH One.

He continued: “I should do,” he said of his initial pledge. “I will do business with the NDC.”

Offering an explanation for his decision, he said he wanted to “be able to bring factories in the constituency for the youth to get work” as well as supporting the education and healthcare systems in the community.

Mr. Frimpong noted that he had not made prior plans on which ticket he was going to contest in 2028 but added that he will take advice from locals on the way ahead.

The businessman triumphed over incumbent MP, Andy Appiah-Kubi in a fiercely contested election. The Asante Akim North constituency has long been regarded as a stronghold of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In the wide-ranging interview, he revealed his surprise  about how massive the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the general election.
