The Ghana Water Company Limited says it has shut down Bonsa Headwork in Tarkwa due to illegal mining also known as galamsey activities.
In a statement, GWL explained that the shut down is due to massive galamsey activities on the Bonsa river.
“We are sorry to announce that Bonsa Headwork that produced 75% of potable water to Tarkwa Township and some environ have been shut down due to massive galamsey activities on river Bonsa making it difficult to abstract for treatment”, they indicated.
