In a release signed by the president, 23 ministries of the Civil Service were listed with significant changes made to the Ministry of Youth And Sports, which will now become the Ministry of Sports and Recreation while a new ministry, Ministry of Youth Development Empowerment will oversee Youth development issues.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports in Ghana has undergone several transformations since its establishment in 1957.
This change aims to reposition the ministry’s focus on promoting sports development and recreation in Ghana. The ministry’s mandate will remain largely the same, with a continued emphasis on youth empowerment and sports development. However, the new name reflects a shift towards a more holistic approach to sports and recreation, encompassing not only competitive sports but also recreational activities and community engagement.
This rebranding is expected to have a positive impact on Ghana’s sports sector. The President in due course will name the respective ministers for the various ministries with Hon Nii Lante Vanderpuye expected to be named Minister of Sports and Recreation.
