All charges leveled against former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo over an alleged leaked audio tape have been withdrawn.
This follows a Notice of withdrawal letter from the Office of the Attorney General signed by the Director of Public Prosecution and filed at the Registry of the High Court on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
“PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that at the next hearing of this suit, the Prosecutor on the instructions of the Honourable Attorney-General hereby withdraws all offences and or charges against all the Accused Persons herein under section 59(1), (2)(b)(ji) and (5) of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act of Ghana, Act 30,” the notice of the withdrawal stated.
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo before now was standing trial together with Anthony Kwaku Boahen, a former Deputy Communications Officer of the NDC.
They were being tried for allegedly conspiring to cause harm to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and the Chairman of the Peace Council.
Both were also separately facing a charge of assault on a public officer and have both pleaded not guilty and were granted bail by the Commercial Division of the Accra High Court in the sum of GHc100,000.
Both were asked produce one surety each.
The prosecution had called three witnesses and closed their case while the accused persons were to open their defense before the charges were withdrawn.
This latest development adds to two others – COCOBOD Case – Stephen Kwabena Opuni and Seidu Agongo/ Ambulance Case – Dr Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa that have been withdrawn.
