The Deputy Energy Minister-designate, Richard Gyan-Mensah has assured Ghanaians that the recent power outages in parts of the country do not signify a return to ‘dumsor,’ a prolonged power crisis.
Addressing parliament’s appointment commitment on February, 25 over the situation, the Deputy Energy Minister-designate acknowledged that some areas have experienced intermittent power outages but insisted that they are temporary and due to ongoing maintenance work on various power plants.
“What we see now, I can’t deny the fact that there have been some pockets of lights going off in some areas. But that is not something that can be described as ‘dumsor,’” he stated.
He further reassured the public that the situation is under control, distancing the current outages from the structured power rationing experienced during the ‘dumsor’ era.
“I want to assure my brother that ‘dumsor’ is not back. We all experienced the period of dumsor, and we know what we went through in terms of even the time when the light goes off. There were schedules and all those things,” he emphasized.
He assured the public that the outages would subside once maintenance work is completed and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that ‘dumsor’ does not return.
