A political analyst at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, has taken a swipe at a group of former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) over their conduct in the lead-up to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2026 presidential primaries.
The former MMDCEs, numbering over 200 have come under scrutiny after a series of private meetings with leading flagbearer hopefuls of the NPP. The group met Kennedy Agyapong last week, Dr. Bryan Acheampong over the weekend, and finally Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the Alisa Hotel on Monday, June 23, 2025, where they formally declared their support for the former Vice President as the party’s best bet for the 2028 general elections.
But speaking on Starr Today with Tutuwaa Danso, Dr. Asante Otchere questioned their credibility, loyalty, and integrity, describing their shifting allegiances as transactional and unprincipled.
“What surprises me is the former MMDCEs, I do not want to see them as persons with integrity. I think that they’re a bunch of political prostitutes who will stake a claim and go for the highest bidder because you just cannot be jumping from one person to another,” he stated.
He further warned presidential aspirants not to rely too heavily on the group’s endorsement.
“Politicians must take their support with a pinch of salt,” he added.
