Recruitment into Ghana Armed Forces will be strictly merit-based – Defence Minister

Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah assures Ghanaians that military recruitment will be transparent, fair, and not up for sale.

The Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process into the Ghana Armed Forces, warning that enlistment will not be for sale under any circumstances.

This assurance comes ahead of the Ghana Armed Forces’ plans to recruit 12,000 personnel in the coming months as part of efforts to strengthen national security.

Speaking after hosting the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior at the Ministry of Defence,Dr. Omane Boamah explained that the recruitment exercise will be conducted fairly, ensuring equal opportunity for all qualified applicants.

“I emphasized that enlistment and recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces will be strictly merit-based, and not for sale. We are committed to transparency and fairness in our recruitment process”. said Dr. Omane Boamah

During the engagement, the Minister and the Committee, led by Hon. James Agalga, held productive discussions on national security strategies, the challenges facing the sector, and the Ministry’s operational priorities.

The Committee expressed their firm support for the Ministry’s work and assured that Parliament would continue to advocate and provide the necessary resources to enhance the security of the country.

Dr. Omane Boamah also stressed the urgent need for enhanced equipment and operational platforms for the Ghana Armed Forces to effectively respond to emerging security threats, particularly in volatile areas.

“I also highlighted the need for enhanced platforms/equipment for the Ghana Armed Forces to effectively respond to emerging threats, particularly in volatile areas.Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure Ghana” Minister of Defence stated
