The Dansoman Circuit Court has sentenced a 48-year-old head porter, Yaw Asare, to two years in prison for vandalising road infrastructure at the newly built Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange in Accra.
Asare was arrested on June 9, 2025, after damaging parapet beams and other fittings on the interchange.
He was later convicted of causing unlawful damage under Section 172 of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29).
In a statement issued on Friday, August 22, the Ministry of Roads and Highways confirmed the sentencing and expressed concern about the growing destruction of public road facilities, including frequent cases of vandalism and crashes involving traffic lights.
A portion of the statement noted, “The Dansoman Circuit Court has recently sentenced Yaw Asare, a 48-year-old head porter, to two years’ imprisonment at Nsawam following his conviction for “causing unlawful damage,” contrary to Section 172 of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29)”
The Ministry reminded the public that tampering with road infrastructure is a criminal act and assured that it is working with the Ghana Police Service to ensure perpetrators face the law.
