President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Ghana Prisons Service, traditional leaders, and local stakeholders for their commitment and cooperation in advancing prison reforms and rehabilitation initiatives across the country.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Damongo Camp Prison, a 300-capacity all-male correctional facility constructed and donated by the Church of Pentecost, President Mahama commended the Ghana Prisons Service for its professionalism and dedication to reform.

“Allow me to also express my appreciation for the essential contributions of the Ghana Prisons Service for its professionalism and dedication to reform, especially to the Director General, Patience Bafo Boni,” he said.

The President also expressed gratitude to contractors, artisans, and community leaders for their craftsmanship and support toward the successful completion of the project.

“The contractors and artisans, I wish to thank you for your craftsmanship and commitment to excellence. His Royal Majesty the Yegora and the chiefs and people of the Damongo Traditional Area, I wish to thank you for your support and hospitality,” he added.

Mr Mahama further commended the local community for its cooperation, noting that their collective effort reflected the spirit of partnership needed to build a better Ghana.

“To the local community whose cooperation has ensured the successful completion of this project, I say ansan kushum. You’ve all shown that when we work together, Ghana works better,” he remarked.

The Damongo Camp Prison, the third of five such facilities promised by the Church of Pentecost after those at Ejura and Nsawam, is designed to serve as a centre for rehabilitation and skill development. It is equipped with workshops for carpentry, tailoring, and metal fabrication, as well as a chapel, dining area, baptistery, and standard football pitch.

According to the Ghana Prisons Service, inmates at the facility will be primarily engaged in agricultural activities within the Damongo enclave as part of their rehabilitation and skill acquisition programme.
