The opening match of the 2025 Super Volleyball Championship in the men’s division featured an explosive contest between Ghana Army and Ghana Airforce.
From the very first whistle, Airforce took control, dictating the tempo of the game and powering their way to a 25–20 victory in the first set.
The second set opened with Airforce firing on all cylinders, racing to a quick three point lead that sent their supporters into loud celebrations and chanting the word “Bull” each time John Bull denied the Army attack with his towering blocks.
Army, however refused to be outclassed as they clawed back point after point until the scoreboard read 14–14. Army’s resurgence was led by jersey number 7, Yakubu Aminu, whose sharp plays pushed them ahead 17–14 just before the water break.

The tension reached its peak when the set locked at 24–24, forcing both sides to battle for the final two points because a team had to lead by a margin of two points to get the win in that set and it was Airforce who kept their composure, sealing the set 26–24 to extend their lead.
Army coach, Ernest Asante, lifted the spirits of his players heading into the third set, and it showed as they carved out an early lead, but Airforce’s John Bull continued to frustrate Army’s attackers with timely blocks. A smart substitution by Coach Goka Sylvanus bolstered Airforce’s frontline with three attackers, allowing the Eagles to tie the game at 22–22 before finishing strongly as they got an emphatic victory over the Army team.
