Dr. Abdul -Kabiru Tiah Mahama, Member of Parliament for Walewale, has stressed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is now a national party that cannot be controlled by a handful of individuals, responding to recent criticisms from veteran politician Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe.
His comments follow Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe’s warning that he and other founding leaders would leave the party should the NPP expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, a move the party cited as necessary due to alleged anti-party conduct.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Dr. Tiah Mahama highlighted the party’s resilience over the past decade despite departures and criticisms from some of its founding members.
“Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe has left the party almost a decade today. For the NPP still survived that ten years or that past decade. He said same thing about Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, he said worse things about him but Nana Addo still allied the NPP and wrestle power from the NDC in 2016 and forming government 2017,” he said.
Addressing claims that the NPP remains under the influence of a few founders, the Walewale MP emphasized the party’s broad reach and national impact.
“Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe may disagree with the way and manner with which the NPP’s run but he has to also learn that the NPP has uplift their generation. The NPP is far broader and wider than they would imagine.
They should appreciate the fact that NPP could have then be in the pocket of some few people but the party based on its national character has grown beyond the few people who happens to call themselves the founding fathers of that particular tradition.”
Dr. Tiah Mahama further pointed to the increasing influence of younger generations in shaping the party’s future.
“So its about time they realised that the NPP is a National party, cannot be controlled by some few people and that the demography of the supporters of the NPP is across and there are people, the gen Zs and gen wise who are now controlling the affairs of the new Patriotic Party.”
