Public policy analyst Selorm Branttie who has taken the initiative to raise funds and materials on social media for frontline workers in Ghana’s Covid-19 fight has appealed to the public to support his drive with anything they can.

According to him, the danger the virus poses to health workers is real and the responsibility of providing personal protection equipment cannot be left for government alone.

“We all must do something to help. A lot of support has come in but there is still more to be done. We have received items from people of different backgrounds and we are encouraged that together we can all make meaningful contributions in critical times like this,” he told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Thursday.

Meanwhile, one more person has died of coronavirus in Ghana bringing the total number of recorded deaths from the virus to three.

The deceased, according to Starrfm.com.gh sources, is a wife of a Rear Admiral in the Ghana Armed forces. She died at the isolation centre at the 37 military hospital in Accra Wednesday.

The latest death comes as Ghana’s COVID-19 cases jumped to 68 as at Wednesday, March 25, according to the Ghana Health Service has announced.

According to the GHS, the sudden spike in case incidence is as a result of the mandatory quarantine and compulsory testing for all travellers entering Ghana, as directed by the president.

Overall, 30 of the 68 cases have been reported in the general population with the remaining 38 cases among persons currently under mandatory quarantine.

As of 24 March, a total of 1030 people were under mandatory quarantine; samples from 863 of them have been tested and 38 confirmed positive.

Globally, 423,469 people have been infected with 18,909 deaths and 109,153people fully recovered.

China, Italy, USA, Spain, Germany and the UK are the worst-hit countries in the world with South Africa and Egypt the hardest-hit countries on the African continent.

All social gatherings have been banned by the President with Ghana’s borders also closed to traffic. People arriving in the country locked for a 14-day mandatory quarantine.
