The Accra Regional Police Command has confirmed that it will enforce a High Court order barring the “Stop Galamsey” protest scheduled for Friday, 27th February 2026.
In a statement, the Police explained that the order, granted on 24th February 2026, was issued to maintain public order and safety, particularly as the demonstration coincides with the State of the Nation Address.
“The Order, which was duly served on the conveners, prohibits the demonstration on the said date in the interest of public order and safety,” the statement read.
The Police also addressed claims circulating on social media suggesting that the organizers had not been served with the court directive.
“The Police wish to clarify that the Court Order has been properly served in accordance with due process,” the statement added.
While the demonstration is prohibited, the Police emphasized their willingness to engage with the organizers to schedule an alternative date.
“However, in line with the Court’s directive, the Police remain open to engaging the conveners to agree on a mutually convenient date for the demonstration, in accordance with the Public Order Act,” the statement noted.
The Accra Regional Police Command appealed to the public to respect the court ruling. “The Command urges the general public to comply with the Court Order and avoid any actions that may lead to breaches of the peace,” it said.
The Police concluded by reassuring stakeholders that constitutional rights would be upheld alongside public safety.
