The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged judges to maintain strict independence and resist political entanglements as the nation’s political climate heats up.
In a Facebook post on Friday, April 17, 2026, Afenyo-Markin advised members of the bench to insulate themselves from external pressures, reminding them that their rulings will ultimately be scrutinized by the public and judged by history.
”For your own peace, stay away from politics,” he stated, asserting that political battles belong to politicians, while the judiciary must remain a sanctuary for impartial justice.
The MP for Effutu referenced Article 296, adding that judges must rely solely on legal expertise and their judicial oaths.
The Minority Leader also made a bold claim regarding the current administration, stating that the NDC will be voted out and that “the tables will turn in 2028.”
