The founder and leader of Perez Chapel International, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, has expressed strong belief that President John Dramani Mahama will assent to the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as Anti-LGBTQ+ once it successfully passes through Parliament.
Speaking on Star Chat with Bola Ray on Starr FM, the influential cleric said his confidence is premised on Predident Mahama’s track record of fulfilling promises.
Archbishop Agyinasare further said the cultural and religious significance of the bill, which President Mahama is aware of, will inform him to assent to the bill once it’s passed by Parliament.
”Mahama has fulfilled a lot of his promises. I believe he will sign the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill once it’s passed by Parliament,” the Archbishop stated.
The Anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which was a central focus during the 2024 elections, has become a topical issue in Ghana in recent times following pronouncement by the President that ‘it is not part of Ghana’s priorities’; a statement which has led many to question the commitment of the President to the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.
Critics of the government have demanded of the clergy which once backed calls by the then opposition NDC against then President Akufo-Addo to sign the bill into law to apply same pressure on President Mahama
Archbishop Dr Agyinasare, however, called for calm, insisting that his position on the bill hasn’t changed.
”If there’s any political party that comes out to say, ‘We endorse LGBTQ,’ if I’m a pastor, I’ll tell my members not to vote for that party,” he remarked.
He demanded of Ghanaians to remain patient as the President would sign the bill into law once it’s passed by Parliament.
