The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has said they arrested New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communicator, Dennis ‘Miracles’ Aboagye and Gerald Appiah to assist with investigations into alleged misappropriation of GHC55 million belonging to the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
In a press statement issued today, EOCO said the arrests form part of ongoing investigations into the suspected misappropriation, misapplication, diversion, and theft of public funds amounting to approximately GH¢55 million.
The investigations, which began last year following an initial forensic audit of the IMCCoD and a subsequent petition, centre on activities covering the period from 1 August 2022 to 2 February 2025. Miracles Aboagye and Mr. Appiah, along with others, are under investigation for several suspected offences, including conspiracy to steal and stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the state, and dissipation of public funds.
Other charges are defrauding by false pretences, money laundering, and other suspected offences.
EOCO noted that Gerald Appiah has voluntarily begun refunding funds connected to the case.
However, the agency stressed that such recoveries do not absolve any suspect of criminal liability.
Miracles Aboagye was arrested upon his arrival at Kotoka International Airport on Saturday night after officers of the Ghana Immigration Service executed a stop order.
He was subsequently handed over to EOCO on Sunday morning. A search is currently underway as part of the ongoing investigation.
EOCO has assured the general public that investigations are continuing and further updates will be provided as appropriate.
