A philanthropist from the Kusaug Traditional area of the Upper East Region has launched a new foundation aimed at supporting widows and orphans as some affected by the prolonged conflict in the kusaug area.
The foundation was officially launched on Wednesday 16th July 2026, at the Benguri Primary School in the Binduri District. The event brought together hundreds of widows and orphans from three districts out of the six administrative districts of Kusaug: Zebila, Bawku and Binduri.
The initiative was born out of the devastating impact of some incidents living numerous of widows and orphans including the conflict between Kusasis and Mamprusis, which has claimed thousands of lives and destroyed properties, particularly in Bawku and its environs. The conflict has left many children orphaned and many women widowed.
The founder of Inshallah Widows and orphans Foundation, Fuseini Akakoob Awudu, a young man and a farmer by profession, said in consultation with his people, he decided to set up the foundation to provide relief and hope to the vulnerable in the six administrative districts of Kusaug Traditional area.
As part of the launch, beneficiaries received donations of a 25kg bag of rice, undisclosed cash, 5 liters of cooking oil, and a tin of tomatoes each worth GHC300,000 to take home.
According to him, this is only the beginning. He pledged to make the support an annual intervention to reach widows and orphans across all six districts of Kusaug.
He also used the occasion to make a passionate appeal to government, NGOs, and other organizations to support the foundation so it can expand its reach and continue to help numerous widows and orphans in the area.
Hundreds of widows and orphans who attended the launch expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as a timely intervention that will bring relief to many households.
